50m (half lap) standing start (in pairs)

There was definitely one faster side of the rink for the half lappers due to the track layout, but everyone got to skate one side each to even it out. Some surprises with Ken placing in front of Sashen (Ken’s never going to let him forget that!), and Steve showing his new found speed, and a dead heat for Sarah & Jo.

A’s 500m pairs pursuit.

First race saw a close race between Toby and Danny until Toby pulled away in the last two laps to record a PB in Victoria. In the second race Corey went out full throttle to take the win and also a PB in Victoria, closing in on Russell who was struggling to break in new blades, and the closest pursuit was between Mike and Sashen with only 8 hundredths of a second between them.

1 Corey williams 49.17 PB
2 Toby Dite 49.71 PB
3 Danny Kah 50.25
4 Sashen Chetty 53.51
5 Russell Collins 53.55
6 Mike Attwood 53.59

B’s 500m

Ken, Melissa & Julie got off the start in that order, with Melissa and Julie chasing but not able to close the initial first corner gap to Ken.

1 Ken Stewart 55.98
2 Melissa Kah 58.92
3 Julie Courtier 1:03.62

B’s 500m

Kathleen won the second B race, with Jo keeping her in sight for as long as possible.

1 Kathleen Bennett 1:10.37
2 Jo Collins 1:15.66

C’s 250m

Steve blasted off the line first place, but crashed in the same corner as last race – but was up on his feet before sliding to the mats! He recovered well to pass Dounia back into second place, with Angus taking the win, and all skaters skating personal bests.

1 Angus McCulloch 38.10 PB
2 Steve Mok 42.02 PB
3 Dounia 44.43 PB

Joeys 250m

The dash to the first corner saw Hamish falling on the very rough ice, but he bravely stayed on to race the half lapper and finish the skating session with a couple of bumps and scrapes. Skyler and Jordan both skated their personal best times in Victoria – Look out C’s, the Joeys will be moving up soon!

1 Skyler Kah 42.77 PB
2 Jordan Attwood 50.66 PB
3 Hamish Church DNF

Standing Start half lap (50m)

Always hotly contested, the half lap standing start had a few surprises, with Mike Attwood showing the Veterans can still sprint by coming in second, Angus skating equal sixth with Julie, and Sarah getting the best of Jo in their regular showdown!

A Grade 1000m

1. Toby Dite 1:41.60 (PB) 2. Danny Kah 1:41.64

Even though only two skaters were in this race it turned out to be a nail biter, with Danny leading from the gun, and Toby sticking like glue right behind. Toby was looking for any opportunities to pass and left it until the very last metres, getting his skate across the line just in front of a dying Danny. The time skated is currently the best time for the season in Australia and a new Victorian PB for Toby!!! WOOOHOOO

B Grade 500m

1. Melissa Kah 57.00 2. Ken Stewart 58.41 3. Wayne Dite 1:02.02

With Ken's reflexes getting better with age, and even better than the starter's he was given a false start again. Melissa got off on the second start well to lead into the first corner and gained 3-4 metres in the first half lap. The gaps stayed pretty much the same for the race with the skaters finishing in the same order.

C Grade 200m

1. Skyler Kah 32.14 (PB) 2. Steve Mok 37.87(PB) 3. Hamish Church 43.99(PB)

Steve Mok got off to a flying start but crashed out of the corner, letting Skyler and Hamish zip past. Steve got back up quickly and chased back to second place, with Joshua Kah practice racing alongside Hamish on the inside of the track.  All times skated were new PBs for the boys.
